What an amazing year 2015 has been! For Styles Street it’s been a year of reflection and change. Reflecting on our practice, environments, vision and our core purpose. This was in collaboration with committee, staff, parents and children. We welcomed a wonderful educator Marie in the Kanga’s room, who inspired, motivated and challenged the other educators working with her to promote the children’s interests, sense of agency and engagement in our curriculum.
Styles Street has a very proactive Committee of Management and with their dedication and commitment we have achieved some wonderful things this year. Our social calendar was busy this year. We kicked it off with our summer social at Petersham Bowling club which was such a great way to meet current and new families. The many successful social events that followed were the Easter picnic in the park, Trivia night, Pyjama/Movie party.
Our building and maintenance committee started before 2015 had begun by organising the installation of new floors throughout the entire Centre and a new front door. The Centre’s painting bee was a huge success and over one weekend the Centre had a makeover with a splash of fresh paint. We had a new fence placed in the back playground last month. Landscape architects were appointed to review our outdoor learning spaces and delivered a concept design inline with the Centre’s vision and plan for the next 5-10 years. We are currently working through the consultation process . The concept design has been added to our website, please have a look and we appreciate your feedback. The next new and exciting building venture is the transformation of the Wombat’s nappy change and storage space, this will be completed by the end of February.
Our staffing committee are always working hard behind the scenes supporting educators and the Director throughout the year. They are involved in staff reviews and staff recruitment and their knowledge and experience is always appreciated.
We had success with 3 grant applications this year, with the Leichhardt Community grant we were able to install the pavers from previous years and add these to our community path. The Telstra grant allowed us to purchase sporting equipment for the children’s use and to compliment our sports program. The Coles Landcare Grant was utilised to incorporate a native garden in the back playground with the addition of stingless bees (coming early 2016).
A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to all our committee members who volunteer their time and work hard ‘behind the scenes’ to ensure that Styles Street remains viable, affordable and a high quality early education and care Centre.
I would like to acknowledge the dedicated and professional educators and staff at Styles Street and congratulate them on a wonderful year. Their commitment, perseverance and enthusiasm is what makes this Centre so amazing.
We would like to congratulate Ces (Kanga’s educator) who welcomed her baby girl Chloe earlier this year and Kristy (Wombat’s educator) who welcomed her second child Nathan to the world last week.
We have some exciting things taking place in 2016 so stay tuned…
