Styles Street Children’s Community Long Day Care Centre is an accredited 60 place long day care centre that caters for the needs of all children aged 2-5 years.

The Centre is a not for profit, community based centre. As a community Child Care centre we rely heavily on the involvement of our parents in fundraising, working bees and social events. Thanks to the participation of the parents in these areas, we are able to keep our fees at a very low rate. In addition, we also ask that any parents who have specific vocational skills that may assist us, if they could please let us know on enrolment. In the past we have benefited from parents who have volunteered their skills in IT, Law, Building and Maintenance, and Human Resource management.

A management committee of voluntary members (parents and family members) is elected each year at the AGM. The Committee provides the Director and staff with the support, policy initiatives and resources to run the Centre efficiently.

Our History
Established on 29th April 1973. Titles to the property, building and contents were transferred to the Styles Street Children’s Community Long Day Care Centre Association in 1988 with the purchase of the Centre from the previous owners, the Capuchin Franciscan Friars. The purchase was funded with a grant from the Federal Department of Community Services and Health.

The Association was formed in 1986 to secure the operation of the Centre and its members are drawn from the parents of children attending the Centre. To become a member of the association you need only lodge an application form and pay an annual fee of $2.

Our Centre is now implementing the Early Years Learning Framework. The EYLF is a national curriculum for early childhood education. It’s emphasis is on the child and family ‘Belonging, Being, & Becoming’. The Framework draws on international evidence that early childhood is a vital period in children’s learning and development. The educators at Styles Street are very excited about the implementation of this new curriculum and are placing more emphasis on our relationships with the children and their families and the implementation of an interest/play based learning environment.
